MESSAGE FROM MAYOR DON DENBOW: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES2021-01-06
Dear Residents:
Despite 2020 being a year that has tested the resolve of our community, the City of Corsicana saw the debut of several new businesses, while recruiting new industrial partnerships and job opportunities to benefit growth in the future.

January began strong with the announcement that Audubon Metals Texas LLC had chosen
Corsicana for a new manufacturing facility. The new addition will create 100 new jobs and over $50 million in capital investment. Audubon Metals Texas will be the first company to locate in the Highway 31 Industrial Park. Construction will be complete in June 2021.

Corsicana Mattress Company, established locally in 1971, announced plans to construct a new 366,000 square foot building in the I-45 Industrial Park. The new building will allow Corsicana Mattress to consolidate local operations, relocate the headquarters back to Corsicana and add 100 new jobs to the existing 350 employees. The new facility will be the first building in the 160-acre I-45 Industrial Park and construction should begin in mid-2021.

Homeland Vinyl Products Inc., a manufacturer of high quality residential and commercial vinyl products, recently purchased the Freedom Fence facility for a new 15-acre location. The company has agreed to invest an additional $3 million in the area, and create 25 new jobs, doubling the workforce to 50 employees.

Additionally, the City was awarded an Economic Development Administration grant for the construction of a new rail spur in the Highway 31 Industrial Park for use by Audubon initially. There are several other tracts that can be served by the spur. New rail service will benefit Corsicana’s economic development effort since there is increasing demand for rail served industrial property.

Corsicana residents were also able to frequent new businesses that opened in 2020, some of the new businesses include Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, a new Kubota dealership, and Altitude
Trampoline Park. In the near future, locals will be able to visit a new QuikTrip convenience
store as well. These new businesses will have a ripple effect across our local economy with
increased spending in retail, restaurants, and service businesses as well as an increased demand for new housing.

Even with some instabilities in the economy due to COVID-19, Corsicana`s unemployment has remained lower overall in comparison to the United States and Texas. The unemployment rate in October was 6.9 percent for the United States and 6.7 percent for Texas, while Navarro County held at 5.1 percent.

2021 looks to provide a brighter future as the COVID-19 vaccine becomes more readily
available to people around the world
.
Happy New Year,
Don Denbow, Mayor
City of Corsicana
