Saturday, March 25 - The American Legion Post, 632 N. Beaton St., will host a free Veterans Clinic from 9 am – 12 noon, with local Attorneys and a representative from the Waco VA Regional Office. This free clinic is open to all local veterans and their families who have a legal matter or questions about VA benefits. There is no reservation or fee required to attend this event. Local attorneys will answer questions on issues including family law, wills and probate, consumer issues, landlord/tenant law, tax issues, bankruptcy and foreclosures. An American Legion service officer from the Waco Regional VA office will answer questions on issues with the VA. Also, a representative from Corley Funeral Home will be available to provide VA burial information. This clinic is open to any veteran or spouse/family member of a living or deceased veteran free of charge. Veterans who need further legal representation may be referred to an attorney volunteer who will take the case on a pro bono (free) or a reduced rate basis.

Saturday, March 25 - The Kerens Ex-Student Association will have a Pancake Brunch from 8 am to 12:30 pm at the KESA Building benefiting the scholarship fund for Kerens High School. Adults $6, kids 12 and under $4. On the menu: pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit, milk, coffee, and orange juice.

Wednesday, March 29 - Rice High School is hosting a blood drive from 9 am to 3 pm at 1400 N. McKinney St. in the gym. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Rusty Blankenship at (903) 326-4502.

Friday, March 31 - Mildred Elementary School will have registration for 2017 - 2018 Kindergarten students from 8:30 - 2 pm. The school nurse will be on campus to conduct vision and hearing screenings. Parents are asked to bring the following required items: official birth certificate, Social Security card, verifification of up to date immunizations, and proof of residency - lease or purchase agreement. Parents who are unable to attend registration on this day are asked to call the elementary school at 903-871- 0381 to make arrangements to register at another time.

April 2nd through the 8th - 59th Annual Navarro County Youth Expo. The silent auction will be held from 10:30 am - 12 pm on Saturday, April 8th with the premium livestock sale starting at 1 pm. Friday, April 21 - The Kerens Ministerial Alliance will be sponsoring "A Night Of Hope Crusade" at the Kerens High Scool football stadium. There will be preaching and gospel music for both young and old alike. Future information will be posted about this special event for our community in the near future when finalized. Saturday April 22 - The Derrick Days 1k/5k Walk/Run. If you would like to be a sponsor and have your business name appear on over 300 racing shirts given to each runner then please contact Bryan at 903-654-0808. The Corsicana Senior Connect - Meals on Wheels Program is in need of volunteers Monday - Friday for meal deliveries. Each delivery route takes about an hour and is typically delivered between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm every day. For more information, feel free to stop by the office located at 1805 Beaton St. or call at 903-641-0166.

Volunteers are needed to help local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in preparing tax returns for low income individuals and the elderly. Volunteers will typically work the same day each week for 3 to 4 hours depending on the number needing help. Volunteers must pass the basic preparer exam. VITA staff will provide training needed to pass the basic exam and to use the TaxSlayer software being provided by the IRS. Basic PC skills and good communications skills are needed for this volunteer position. Most volunteers will work at the Corsicana YMCA building on either a Tuesday or Thursday. Every day, there are kids sleeping in CPS offices, shelters and hotels due to their parents' actions and the state not having enough homes to place them in. A Blessing in Disguise is a non profit organization that provides a home for these kids. We are committed to improving the quality of life for children. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. Grandparents Raising Grandkids Support Group will meet at FBC Eureka at 8718 S Hwy 287 Eureka Tx the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The purpose of this group is to provide support, and encouragement, as well as offer helpful and informative information with occasional speakers coming in. The Corsicana Animal Shelter is running low on dog food! The pets would love some yummy food. The shelter is in desparate need of Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during regular operating hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 12 until 4 pm. Please help!

Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). We have an open mic, and anyone that can sing, or think they can sing or play, or just want to enjoy the music, are welcome to come and join us. Corsicana now has a running club. It's totally free and we welcome new or seasoned runners. We normally run on Wednesday and Saturday but times vary. Navigators will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and may schedule appointments on Saturday on request. CHIP and Childrens Medicaid cover regular check-ups, shots, doctor and dentist visits, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions, and more. For each child to be enrolled, bring a copy of birth certificate, social security number, a copy of Alien Registration card if your child is not a U.S. citizen, proof of income for each family member, and proof of how much your family pays for childcare. Navigators can also assist with questions about applying for insurance in the Health Insurance Marketplace for the Affordable Care Act. Although open enrollment for 2014 Marketplace coverage is over, you may still be able to enroll if you have a life-changing circumstance, such as losing your job, having a baby or other qualifying events. Have an old cell phone or phones cluttering up their home? The Angels of Corsicana Troop Support has the answer. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
