The Northside Baptist Church Care Center is open and full and waiting for clients. They are open Monday and Wednesday 9-3 and Friday 9-12, and plan to operate through the summer. There are people that are hungry and need assistance so the Care Center invites those in need of assistance to come by for help.

The Navarro County Farmers Market is open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 7 am to 12 noon at 408 E. Sixth Ave., under the pavilion next to the Corsicana Daily Sun building on Business 45 at the foot of the overpass. Please support our local farmers!

Saturday, August 7 - Navarro County & City of Corsicana Cleanup Day from 7 am to 1 pm at Corsicana Regional Landfill on Jester Drive off of Highway 31. Bring your trash and junk to the landfill. This can include large appliances such as stoves, and washers, furniture, entertainment equipment such as TVs, speakers, and stereos, agricultural pesticide containers (must be triple rinsed, punctured or crushed), and daily household garbage. Tires will not be accepted. You must be a Navarro County resident and have proof of residency. If you are a business owner in Navarro County, but not a resident, you may take part in the Cleanup Day, but will need some type of verification, like a water bill, to prove your business is in Navarro County. All loads must be tarped and firmly secured to trucks and trailers according to TCEQ regulations. Assistance will be available to unload your junk/trash. Volunteers will also be available to take items to the landfill for elderly or disabled residents in the immediate Corsicana area. For this assistance, call 903-654-3075.

Tuesday, August 10 - The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana on 2021, from 11 am until 1 pm. The Sirloin Stockade is located at 2508 W.7th Ave.(TX Hwy 31) in Corsicana. The guest speaker for the meeting will be Jana Miller, Deputy Chief of Juvenile Probation for Navarro County. Ms Miller has fifteen years of experience in this work. It should be an interesting program. NARFE Chapter 1191 has members from Ellis, Navarro and surrounding counties. Friday, August 20 - Arcosa Benefit to aid two Streetman employees and their families in need. They will be selling brisket, turkey, and pulled pork plates, which include beans, potato salad, pickles, onions, bread, and cake, for $10 per plate. Plates may be picked up from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm the morning of the benefit at the Streetman Volunteer Fire Department, 219 Main Street, Streetman, next to the Post Office. They will also be selling whole briskets for $75 each, whole turkey breasts for $35 each, and pork butts for $40 each. Friday, August 27 through Sunday, August 29 - Corsicana Hydroplane Classic at Lake Halbert, 1600 Lake Halbert Road, for Corsicana's first ever hydroplane boat racing competition with speeds up to 90 mph on a 3/4 mile race course. On Friday, testing will be from noon to 5 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, racing will be held from noon to 5 pm. The event is free to the public and everyone is welcome.

Thursday, September 2 - Red Cross Blood Drive at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 2308 Bowie Dr., Corsicana, from 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM. Donors must schedule and appointment by calling 1-800-RedCross. Walk-ups cannot be accepted due to COVID restrictions.

Saturday, October 16, Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival 121 Colket Street, Kerens, beginning at 8 am. Free admission. All day festival with a chili cookoff, quilt show, raffles, children's games and rides, live entertainment all day long, evening street concert, arts and craft and food booths available. It's an annual event to raise funds for the Kerens Library.

Saturday, October 16 - The Coyote Squadron presents "The Best Little Airshow in Texas" at Corsicana Municipal Airport, KCRS, C David Campbell Field, 9000 Navarro Road, Corsicana. Join us for WWII Flying Warbirds, Aerobatic Acts, Precision Flying Teams, Sky Divers, Pyrotechnics and so much more. Food, drinks, vendors. Gates open 8:30 am. Entry is $10 per person or $20 per carload. Veterans and Active Military and Families are free.

City of Corsicana Park Pools are open for the summer. Jester Park Pool hours: Wednesday-Saturday 1 PM - 6 PM, Sunday 1 PM - 5 PM, Closed Monday & Tuesday. All Entries Pay $3. Pool Party Fees: $100 for 75 people, $125 for over 75. Bunert Park Pool hours: Wednesday-Saturday 1 PM - 6 PM, Closed Sunday-Tuesday. All Entries Pay $2. Pool Party Fee $50. Volunteer Fire Departments are in need of bottled water. Also, if you have a refrigerator you don't need, please consider donating it to your local Volunteer Fire Department. They can use it!

Compassion Corsicana is located at 517 N Commerce Street, across from Salvation Army. They offer nutritious food to residents who meet the income requirements. They partner with the North Texas Food Bank and several local stores and community members to provide nutritious food for those in need. Residents may visit the pantry once per month for groceries, and weekly for produce. All you need is an ID or bill showing you live in Navarro Co. If you have an unserviceable US, state, M.I.A., or military flag, bring it to the American Legion, 632 N. Beaton St. If the post is closed, you can place the flag in a plastic bag and hang it on the front door. After 2 pm daily, bring it inside. If you can not afford a new US flag, the American Legion will replace your unserviceable US flag with a new US Flag. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. For more information about this organization and flight schedules, visit www.honorflightdfw.org. This is one way for us to honor our veterans while we still have them around.

Grandparents Raising Grandkids Support Group will meet at FBC Eureka at 8718 S Hwy 287 Eureka Tx the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The purpose of this group is to provide support, and encouragement, as well as offer helpful and informative information with occasional speakers coming in. Have an old cell phone or phones cluttering up their home? The Angels of Corsicana Troop Support has the answer. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
