Tuesday, April 25th - The Corsicana & Navarro County Chamber of Commerce will hold a forum for candidates running for office in the election on May 6, 2017 at 5:30 pm at the City Government Center, this event is free to the public. Refreshments will be served at 5 pm The event will be live streamed on the City of Corsicana and the Daily Sun websites. Candidates have been invited to make remarks with a question-and-answer period to follow. This is the public's opportunity to hear from the candidates themselves about their ideas and thoughts on how they plan to represent their citizens. The Chamber of Commerce supports the citizens right to be educated and informed on the issues prior to voting. We invite you to attend!

Saturday, May 6 - The Emhouse 57th School Reunion will be held at the Emhouse Community Center. Gather at 11 am, pot luck dinner at noon, and dismiss at 1:30 pm. This yearly tradition has kept the memory of the school and students alive. The school flourished from 1941 until 1959, the year it closed. Please bring a favorite dish to share with everyone. Bread, ice, and tea will be provided. Be sure to spread the word in case we fail to notify schoolmates who might have changed their mailing addresses. Meals on Wheels needs your GROCERY BAGS! Please deliver plastic grocery bags to their office at 1805 N. Beaton Street between 8:30 am and 1:30 pm Monday - Friday.

Meals on Wheels Program is in need of volunteers Monday - Friday for meal deliveries. Each delivery route takes about an hour and is typically delivered between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm every day. Volunteers are needed to help local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in preparing tax returns for low income individuals and the elderly. Volunteers will typically work the same day each week for 3 to 4 hours depending on the number needing help. Volunteers must pass the basic preparer exam. VITA staff will provide training needed to pass the basic exam and to use the TaxSlayer software being provided by the IRS. Basic PC skills and good communications skills are needed for this volunteer position. Most volunteers will work at the Corsicana YMCA building on either a Tuesday or Thursday. Every day, there are kids sleeping in CPS offices, shelters and hotels due to their parents' actions and the state not having enough homes to place them in. A Blessing in Disguise is a non profit organization that provides a home for these kids. We are committed to improving the quality of life for children. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. Grandparents Raising Grandkids Support Group will meet at FBC Eureka at 8718 S Hwy 287 Eureka Tx the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The purpose of this group is to provide support, and encouragement, as well as offer helpful and informative information with occasional speakers coming in. The Corsicana Animal Shelter is running low on dog food! The pets would love some yummy food. The shelter is in desparate need of Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). We have an open mic, and anyone that can sing, or think they can sing or play, or just want to enjoy the music, are welcome to come and join us. For each child to be enrolled, bring a copy of birth certificate, social security number, a copy of Alien Registration card if your child is not a U.S. citizen, proof of income for each family member, and proof of how much your family pays for childcare. Navigators can also assist with questions about applying for insurance in the Health Insurance Marketplace for the Affordable Care Act. Although open enrollment for 2014 Marketplace coverage is over, you may still be able to enroll if you have a life-changing circumstance, such as losing your job, having a baby or other qualifying events. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
