Corsicana's municipal pools are open. Bunert and Jester Park Pool hours are 1-6 pm Wednesday through Saturday. Jester Pool is also open 1-5 pm on Sunday. Tuesday, July 4 - 4th ofJuly Parade Downtown Blooming Grove at 10:30 am. Participants line up on the high school parking lot at 10 am. All are welcome to participate. Parade entries are needed: floats, cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, horses, bicycles, etc. Businesses, churches, teams, and organizations both inside and outside of Blooming Grove are encouraged to participate. Tuesday, July 4 - Freedom Fest presented by the Corsicana Rotary Club at I.O.O.F. Park, 6-10 pm. There will be a professional pyrotechnic show, food and beverage vendors, activities for kids such as bounce houses, and live music by Triple Nickel. Saturday, August 5 - Honor Flight DFW brings new program to Corsicana for older veterans from 10 am to noon, nonoring WWII, Korean War, and Viet Nam veterans with their new Ground Mission program. Honor Flight DFW, known primarily for their two day one night, all expense paid trip to Washington, DC for WWII, Korean War, and Viet Nam veterans, now has the Ground Mission program specifically for veterans who are medically or physically unable to make the trip. At the Ground Mission, attending veterans are honored in many different ways. With close family and friends in attendance, these veterans receive their official Honor Flight shirts, jackets, and hats in an opening ceremony. Led by Gordon Haggett, Ground Mission Director and Viet Nam veteran, the veterans are recognized by name, short “war stories” written by these vets are read aloud, short videos of the WWII, Korean, and Viet Nam memorials in WDC are shown, and a guest speaker addresses the vets. A special flag ceremony closes the official ceremony and the veterans then enjoy refreshments with family, friends and the Honor Flight volunteers who run the program.

Every day, there are kids sleeping in CPS offices, shelters and hotels due to their parents' actions and the state not having enough homes to place them in. A Blessing in Disguise is a non profit organization that provides a home for these kids. We are committed to improving the quality of life for children. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. The Corsicana Animal Shelter is running low on dog food! The pets would love some yummy food. The shelter is in desparate need of Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). We have an open mic, and anyone that can sing, or think they can sing or play, or just want to enjoy the music, are welcome to come and join us. CHIP and Childrens Medicaid cover regular check-ups, shots, doctor and dentist visits, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions, and more. For each child to be enrolled, bring a copy of birth certificate, social security number, a copy of Alien Registration card if your child is not a U.S. citizen, proof of income for each family member, and proof of how much your family pays for childcare. Navigators can also assist with questions about applying for insurance in the Health Insurance Marketplace for the Affordable Care Act. Although open enrollment for 2014 Marketplace coverage is over, you may still be able to enroll if you have a life-changing circumstance, such as losing your job, having a baby or other qualifying events. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
