The Corsicana Police Department has issued a "scam alert" after instances of the Police Department`s phone number being "spoofed" and a caller claiming citizens could be arrested if they don`t immediately pay money the caller says is due to the city.

The press release from Police Chief Robert Johnson:

The Corsicana Police Department has received two complaints from citizens who stated that they had received phone calls from the Corsicana Police Department phone number (903.654.4902).

The caller identified themselves as being with the Police Department and that they owed money to the City and that they would be arrested if they did not pay. The caller further advised that they would have to make the payment over the phone with a credit card and not in person.

Please know that the caller (suspect) is SPOOFING the Corsicana Police Department`s phone number. The CPD will NEVER call over the telephone and ask for any payment or credit card numbers. If you get a call like this please know that it is a SCAM and illegal. Please contact the Corsicana Police Department if you have received a call like this.
